The inhabitants of Oueslatia in Tunisia, are still under the shock that a jihadist was raised in their neighbourhood.
They all saw Anis Amri, the suspected perpetrator of the Berlin market attack as he grew up. They are however in a state of shock after getting news that he was shot dead in Milan.
Earlier on Thursday, while Amri was still on the run the family of the suspect launched an appeal for him to surrender to the authorities.
“It must ensure that the truth is revealed on the death of my son. He was killed while he was still a suspect,” Amri’s mother Nour el-Houfa said.
“We need evidence to be convinced. We call on the authorities to repatriate his remains,” Walid Amri, brother to Anis Amri told reporters.
Even if his family has always expressed doubts on his guilt, Anis Amri, was accused of killing 12 people and wounding dozens of others in a Christmas market last Monday in Berlin.
According to a video broadcast by the propaganda agency of the Islamic State, he had pledged allegiance to the terrorist group.
